The Salinas-Monterey Agility Center (SMAC) offers group classes and private lessons in dog agility taught by Rob Michalski and Derede Arthur. Classes are held in the Salinas, California area.

Rob has been competing in agility since 1992 and has earned titles in all three of the major agility organizations: USDAA, AKC, and NADAC. Some of Rob's achievements in agility include two USDAA Agility Dog Championships: one with Kita, a Belgian Tervuren (the first Tervuren to earn the title), and the other with Rontu, an Australian Shepherd. Most recently, Kita finished in the top 10 (out of some 110 26" dogs) in three events at the September 2000 USDAA National Championships (Snooker, Gamblers Choice, and Timed Gamble) and was the second place 22" Veterans Grand Prix dog. Rob's current competition dog is Hobbes, a two year old Border Collie who is already competing at the Masters level in USDAA and at the Excellent level in AKC. In November of 2000 Hobbes won the Bay Team's California Cup competition.

Derede's only agility dog has been a Belgian Tervuren, Maia, who by age three had achieved the AKC Agility Excellent, the NADAC Elite Certificate, and the USDAA Masters Agility Dog titles. In September 2000, Maia and Derede finished in 6th place in the highly competitive 26" Grand Prix at the USDAA/Animal Planet National Championships. Maia had 21/23 of the legs necessary for her USDAA Agility Championship when she died of lupus at barely four years of age, a few weeks after the USDAA Nationals. Derede is now preparing a friend's Tervuren for competition, and looking forward to getting her next agility dog, another Terv, this summer.
